If you reverted back to the 19-year-old you yesterday like myself, you probably want to put something green in your system that isn't beer. Regardless of what I put in my body yesterday, it also happens to be fashion week, which means eating on the go - and usually not nutritionally as I don't have the time. If you're in a hurry in the mornings, this quick detox could be for you too!
With only 4 ingredients needed, it's super fast and the ginger always kicks me awake with it's potent punch. The health benefits of the following ingredients are almost endless, but I'll cover the main purpose of each.
Lemon: Rich in Vitamin C and powerful antioxidants, lemon encourages healthy digestion by loosening toxins, and plays a key role in collagen formation, therefore it is known as a beautifier.
Ginger: Known to soothe the stomach and digestional tract, it is also an anti-inflammatory. It reduces muscle pain and soreness (for the gym rats) and treats Nausea.
Turmeric: An antioxidant rich spice and an anti-inflammatory. Has been long used in Chinese and Indian medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent to treat a wide variety of conditions: Flatulence, menstrual difficulties, toothache, and the list goes on.
Green Apple: Acts as a sweetener to the flavour packed concoction, helps whiten teeth, and has proven to have a role in weight loss. Oh, and don't forget all the antioxidants!
- Juice from Half a Lemon
- Half of a Green Apple
- 1/2 Inch Knob of Ginger
- Dash of Turmeric
- Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into your glass.
- If you're lucky enough to have a juicer (so blessed), pop your ginger first and then your green apple in. I like to add a 1/4 cup of water to the entire mix.
If NOT (like me), place your green apple sliced and your ginger, sliced, into a blender with 1/2 cup of water and blend on high.
- Pour and mix your ingredients and add a dash of turmeric on the top.
- If you'd like to make some for two days, just use a whole apple, a whole lemon, and 1 inch knob (but you already knew that).
